How We work

At The Turner Centre we have over twenty therapists who deal with a wide range of difficulties and fully understand the importance of feeling at ease when discussing personal issues.

With this in mind we have created a unique environment within The Turner Centre ensuring a calming and peaceful surrounding. Each room designed with the natural es sence of wood and offering a relaxed atmosphere as soon as you enter the building. The furnishings complement the themes within the building, tailoring the space per fectly for our clients to feel comfortable and secure whether it be individuals, couples, families or children who are coming for therapy.

The Assessment Session

We recognise that counselling and therapy is not for everyone and it is necessary, for any therapy to be effective, to feel safe and understood by the therapist and feel that the therapist is someone you can relate to and get along with. Also, that the type of therapy is what you are looking for.

In view of this, we offer all prospective clients an assessment session which is a space for you to meet your therapist and to discuss the difficulties you are experiencing. It is an opportunity for you to get a sense of the therapist and a feel of how the therapy could work for you. It also allows the therapist to gain a picture of some of the issues worrying you. This can last from 50 minutes to an hour and a half.

You will then be encouraged to reflect on the session and think about whether or not you feel it is for you. If you decide to continue, each session following the assessment will be for 50 minutes and will usually be on the same day and at the same time each week unless you need it to be flexible.

During the assessment your therapist will discuss with you the options of short term (a set number of sessions) or long term and open ended therapy (no set end). With Cognitive Behavioural Therapy your therapist will discuss with you the number of sessions required to deal with your specific difficulty.

Any subsequent sessions will be arranged directly with your therapist.
