Your question...

Phobias, Obsessions,
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

Obsessions are unpleasant thoughts, urges or images which continually come into your mind and you have no control over them. They can leave you feeling anxious, disgusted and exhausted.

Compulsions are actions or behaviours which you feel compelled to do over and over again. Usually the compulsive act is associated with the obsessive thought.

You may be aware these thoughts and actions are irrational but have no control over stopping them. They may be a slight irritation to your life or deeply distressing.

CBT can be effective in changing your thought patterns and reducing or eliminating the obsessive and compulsive process. It aims to help you understand your current thought patterns and suggest ways of changing your thoughts and behaviours.

'Every therapeutic care, any awkward attempt to show the patient the truth, tears him from the cradle of his freedom from responsibility and must, therefore, reckon with the most vehement resistance'
